People sleeping rough in Coffs Harbour who have received accommodation and support through the NSW Government’s Together Home program will be helped into longer-term housing thanks to a more than $5.7 million partnership with Mission Australia.
Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh said the Together Home Transition program will fund Mission Australia to deliver 14 social housing properties in the region.
“This transition program will assist our local Together Home tenants into longer-term social housing with wrap-around supports,” Mr Singh said.
“It builds on the work Mission Australia, specialist homelessness services and the community are doing to prevent and respond to homelessness in our region by providing stability to help people get their lives back on track.”
Mission Australia CEO Sharon Callister said the organisation is excited to be part of the project.
“These brand-new units will deliver much needed social housing for people sleeping rough and boost the Coffs economy by providing construction jobs for local tradies,” Ms Callister said.
Minister for Families and Communities and Minister for Disability Services Natasha Maclaren-Jones said the $122.1 million Together Home program is a nation-leading initiative that has already helped 728 people with housing needs and 870 with support services to transform their lives.
Of this, $35.5 million has been allocated for the delivery of 150 dwellings to address long term housing needs.
“In partnership with the community housing sector, this transition program will help more people break the cycle of homelessness for good,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.
The Together Home program was first rolled out in July 2020 and will support over 1,054 people sleeping rough into housing.
