New data reveals the most in-demand occupations in Coffs Harbour, with locals encouraged to get ready for the jobs boom by equipping themselves with skills and training through TAFE NSW.
Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh said the face of the region’s jobs market was changing, with childcare workers expected to be the fastest-growing occupation over the next three years, climbing by 15.1 per cent.
“We need a workforce that will continue to underpin NSW as the nation’s leading economy, and the strongest workforce is one that’s continually learning, upskilling, and keeping up to date with new technologies,” Mr Singh said.
“TAFE NSW designs courses in consultation with industry to ensure they are current, relevant, and respond to emerging trends and technological advancements, and now is the time to explore your options at TAFE.”
Other jobs expected to see rapid growth locally are beauty therapists (11.8 per cent), teachers’ aides (12.5 per cent) and community workers (10.3 per cent). Data sourced by TAFE NSW.
Beauty therapy graduate and owner of Coffs Harbour’s True Therapies Day Spa, Kelly McNeil, is one of many locals to fast-track their career with a TAFE NSW qualification.
“I’d been working in the welfare industry for 17 years and I was a single mum of two young kids and wanted to do something different,” Ms McNeil said.
“I decided to enrol in the Diploma of Beauty at TAFE NSW and it was a great experience; it really prepared me well for the industry.”
Minister for Skills and Training Alister Henskens urged locals to consider how TAFE NSW could help them further their careers.
“There has never been a better time to study at TAFE NSW. The NSW Government is funding a range of fee-free courses and training programs to help people get the skills they need for the jobs they want,” Mr Henskens said.
