The Minns Government’s 2023-24 Budget shows just how far removed Labor is from the realities of life for regional residents.
Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh said the Budget had largely ignored regional and rural communities which are groaning under the burden of rising interest rates, the spiralling cost of living and the housing crisis.
Instead, the axe had fallen on many successful NSW Liberals and Nationals Government programs and services vital for country communities, Mr Singh said.
“I had hoped the Minns Government would help make life easier for people living in regional centres like the Coffs Coast, but my hopes have been dashed today,” Mr Singh said.
“Crucial cost of living programs like the Regional Seniors Travel Card, Active Kids, Creative Kids, Back to School and First Lap vouchers have been cut, despite their roaring success under the NSW Nationals in Government.
“This failed Budget demonstrates Labor is incapable of understanding the needs of regional families, workers, farmers, small businesses and seniors.
“Coffs Harbour leads the way as a key contributor to economic growth in our State, and now more than ever we need to keep our local economy strong, support businesses and look out for each other.
“I look forward to the big, game-changing projects like the Coffs Harbour Bypass and the revitalised Jetty Foreshores redefining what our region is all about and helping us prosper.
“I’m proud of the NSW Coalition’s economic management, record investment in schools, hospitals and infrastructure, and support for families, households and businesses, which is in stark contrast to Labor’s approach.
“I will continue to stand up for the Coffs Coast to ensure we get our fair share from this Sydney-centric Labor Government.”
