Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh said NSW Women’s Week is the perfect way to recognise and appreciate the women of the Coffs Coast, with two in particular winning prestigious awards.
Mr Singh said our mums, sisters and daughters make a positive difference in the lives of their loved ones and the community they’re proud to call home.
“I’m extremely grateful for the inspirational women who are the heart and soul of the Coffs Coast,” Mr Singh said.
“They’ve been among the hardest hit by fire, flood, drought and COVID-19, yet so many have stepped up again and again to help others.”
Woolgoolga Lions Club president Jean Vickery is another outstanding example of the important work by women in our community, so much so she’s won the NSW Community Hero of the Year Award in the NSW Women of the Year Awards, announced in Sydney this morning.
“Jean has been a driving force in many fundraising initiatives for local causes across our city over the years and she can always be counted on to pitch in when it matters most,” Mr Singh said.
“Jean, a former Coffs Harbour City Citizen of the Year, is an unstoppable force for good.
“She certainly leads by example and loves what she does. I am extremely proud of this remarkable woman.”
Mr Singh today announces Surf Life Saving NSW stalwart, Sawtellian Kerry Clancy, is the 2021 Coffs Harbour Electorate Local Woman of the Year.
“Kerry is the embodiment of passion, dedication, patience and good humour in the many leadership roles she’s held with SLSNSW,” Mr Singh said.
“She’s proudly paved the way for female representation in the organisation, being the first woman to be elected to both the North Coast Branch and then to the board of Surf Life Saving NSW.
“Kerry loves the Coffs Coast and making it an even better place to live.”
