Female sporting teams in our regions will benefit from new and improved facilities, and our towns will see even more investment in community infrastructure and programs, said Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh.
Mr Singh said that’s thanks to the $100 million Stronger Country Communities Fund Round Four.
Applications are open until 25 June for projects which improve female sports facilities, local amenities, boost community morale and improve health and well-being.
“Up to $50 million is dedicated to the delivery of female sports facilities and programs, to encourage greater female participation across all levels and codes across regional NSW,” Mr Singh said.
“The Stronger Country Communities Fund is all about ensuring regions like the Coffs Coast benefit from having the very best facilities for local residents.”
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro and Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor said the NSW Government’s commitment to delivering better facilities is another step towards levelling the playing field for girls and women in sport.
Mr Barilaro said the NSW Government will make a big difference by delivering new and improved facilities and female centric programs for all girls and women in remote, rural and regional communities.
“A lack of adequate amenities, especially for females, can often be a barrier to participation so by improving and building purpose-fit facilities and developing programs, girls and women will feel more welcome, safe, included and encouraged to regularly participate in sports and active recreation,” Mr Barilaro said.
Mrs Taylor said providing facilities, particularly women’s changerooms, ensures all female athletes are supported from grassroots to elite level to participate in the widest range of sports, including once male-dominated codes.
