Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh encourages our seafood businesses, associations and commercial fishers to apply for grants in the NSW Government’s Eat More NSW Seafood 2021 program.
Mr Singh said the NSW Government will deliver $500,000 in grants to see more NSW seafood on more plates in more restaurants, which comes as a welcome boost to industry following the impacts of recent floods.
“There’s never been a better time than now to back our local seafood suppliers, restaurants, shops and fishers,” Mr Singh said.
“This program means Coffs Coast fishing businesses can apply for grants from a $500,000 funding pool to promote their product and make sure it’s the first choice for locals and visitors.
“Many of our local fishing businesses were hit hard by recent floods, but this is just one way we are helping them recover.
“There are plenty of ideas applicants can come up with. They can organise an event, run a marketing campaign or simply focus on selling more local fish. Anything that promotes seafood caught in NSW waters.”
Mr Singh said seafood businesses, industry associations and commercial fishers should apply through the NSW Department of Primary Industries website.
“Funding will be delivered in two streams, including grants for small scale projects under $10,000 and grants for large scale projects of up to $100,000,” Mr Singh said.
“Our seafood industry is worth $174 million a year but it’s vital we still support and protect it from the impacts of floods, COVID-19, trade disruptions, bushfires and drought.”
