COMMUNITY FEEDBACK ON JETTY FORESHORE VISION RELEASED

The NSW Government today released an outcomes report capturing community feedback on the draft Vision, Place Principles and ‘Big Ideas’ proposed for the Coffs Harbour Jetty Foreshore Revitalisation.

Feedback was collected from numerous stakeholder meetings, drop-in sessions and a survey that ran during April and May 2021 seeking to understand the community’s aspirations for the Jetty Foreshore area.

Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh said the response from the community during the first phase of consultation exceeded expectations and he thanked people for their participation and valuable feedback.

“We are putting community feedback at the heart of our approach to create a vibrant and thriving foreshore precinct that provides benefits for all, while maintaining the cultural and existing family friendly qualities of the local area,” Mr Singh said.

“We received 1,556 completed surveys during the period, which is a fantastic result that shows how important the Jetty Foreshore is to all of us.”

The consultation outcomes report and a highlights snapshot can be viewed online at www.coffsjettyrevitalisation.com.au.

Minister for Water, Property and Housing Melinda Pavey said the feedback is being used to inform the formulation of a master plan which will be presented to the community for further feedback in the next phase of consultation.

“The outcomes report will help shape work being done by the project team with the support of the Project Steering Advisory Committee (PSAC) to determine proposed future land use, the level of development and activation outcomes for the wider precinct,” Mrs Pavey said.

“We are aware of strong community sentiment regarding no development east of Jordan Esplanade and no retirement living on the Deep Sea Fishing Club site.”

The next stage of the planning process is to develop a master plan in line with PSAC feedback and to undertake further engagement with the community, the output from which will be a plan for the Jetty Foreshore precinct subject to a formal statutory planning process.

Mrs Pavey said that acknowledgement of country and consultation with the Traditional Owners of the Coffs Harbour area, the Gumbaynggirr People, was critical to the project and that a dedicated engagement stream has been established.

“We want to ensure our engagement with Traditional Owners is meaningful, inclusive and respectful throughout the master planning process, so we are delighted to partner with Indigenous-owned business Murawin to lead this important work,” she said.

Last month, the NSW Government unveiled its plans for the new community building on the Coffs Harbour Jetty Foreshore as part of a $5 million revamp to create new public amenities, community spaces, café-style dining and improved waterfront access.

The building will be delivered alongside $15 million in essential services and civil infrastructure upgrades across the foreshore precinct over the same period.

“We are pushing ahead with these priority projects while the broader master plan for the Jetty Foreshore precinct continues to be developed,” Mr Singh said.
