NAVY CADETS’ TRADITION TO CONTINUE IN NEW COMMUNITY BUILDING

The NSW Government today confirmed $150,000 will be allocated to fit out a dedicated space for the Navy Cadets in the proposed new Coffs Harbour Jetty Foreshore community building.

Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh said plans for the new community building, to replace the existing TS Vendetta facility on the foreshore site, were developed in consultation with all stakeholders, including Coffs Harbour City Council and the Department of Defence, to ensure it met the needs of the wider community and the Navy Cadets.

“This fantastic new community building has been designed to accommodate the Navy Cadets and will be fit out to provide space for their parade activities, water equipment and memorabilia,” Mr Singh said.

“The building will also offer new public amenities, community spaces, café-style dining and improved waterfront access for the whole community to enjoy.”

Last month, plans for the new community building were submitted to the council for planning approval, with a commitment that space would be allocated to the Navy Cadets, along with other community uses.

Minister for Water, Property and Housing Melinda Pavey said she was delighted $5 million in government stimulus funding is being used to deliver a new community building that would continue to serve the Navy Cadets, activate the foreshore and generate ongoing economic benefits.

“This is the first stage of the NSW Government’s plans to create additional activity on the Jetty Foreshore by delivering family friendly and community places and spaces that provide real benefits for locals and visitors,” Mrs Pavey said.

“We will continue to work with Coffs Harbour City Council to ensure plans for the new building meet the needs of all parties, including the Navy Cadets.”

Subject to DA approval, the NSW Government expects to award the construction contract in late 2021.
