BOOSTING SENIOR PUBLIC SECTOR JOBS IN THE REGIONS

More senior NSW Government roles will be based in regional communities like the Coffs Coast, increasing the number of high skilled jobs and supporting local economies, following the release of the NSW Government’s Regional Workforce Principles.

Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh said these new Principles will help to grow the public sector in regional areas through commitments to increase the proportion of senior regional staff by 2023 as well as to advertise roles that can be performed from any location as ‘regional location encouraged’.

“This is exciting news for regional communities, it means a more significant NSW Government presence across the state, more job opportunities and greater career progression,” Mr Singh said.

“We all benefit from a more significant NSW Government workforce presence in our regions where local communities have the local knowledge and experience to make decisions about their own wants and needs.

“While details about where people will be based are yet to be determined, I will be promoting the vibrant lifestyle, friendly community, and spectacular scenery and quality of life waiting to be enjoyed here on the Coffs Coast.”

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the Regional Workforce Principles demonstrate the NSW Government’s commitment to delivering its recently released 20-Year Economic Vision for Regional NSW – Refresh.

“After the impacts of natural disasters and a pandemic, it’s clear our communities want a stronger, safer regional NSW, which is not only surviving, but thriving, and the refreshed 20-year Vision sets out a clear pathway forward,” Mr Barilaro said.

“These principles will build on the NSW Government’s investment in regional NSW, enabling people to pursue their public sector careers in the bush, rather than having to relocate to Sydney.

The Department of Regional NSW has established working hubs in Armidale, Coffs Harbour, Dubbo and Queanbeyan in the past six months, and will soon begin to assist NSW Government agencies to grow their workforces in regional communities.
