BUDGET BOOST TO REVAMP TAFE NSW COFFS HARBOUR

The NSW Government will invest $29.6 million over three years in new and upgraded TAFE NSW facilities at the Coffs Harbour Education Campus to boost skills training on the Mid North Coast.

The investment will enhance TAFE NSW’s delivery of industry-aligned education and training at the contemporary Coffs Harbour Education Campus, a precinct shared with Southern Cross University and the Coffs Harbour Senior College.

Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh said the funding will expand opportunities for locals to get in-demand skills.

“TAFE NSW is critical to the Mid North Coast economy and this investment demonstrates the NSW Government’s commitment to training the region’s workforce at a time of growth and opportunity,” Mr Singh said.

“The new Pacific Bay Resort Studios and Village is set to drive new jobs in the creative industries, and there’s a growing need for skilled workers to support the expanding South Coffs Enterprise Area Health, Education, Airport, and Stadium precincts.

“This funding will increase TAFE NSW’s capacity to deliver training aligned to these growing local industries and support the economy into the future.”

The funding includes the construction of two new buildings, the refurbishment of a third, new specialist teaching equipment, and additional infrastructure such as extra car parking.

TAFE NSW offers Coffs Harbour students access to a range of qualifications linked to in-demand jobs in areas such as creative industries, health care and social assistance, beauty, construction, retail, information technology, and accommodation and food services.

Minister for Skills and Training Alister Henskens said the investment is part of the NSW Government’s record TAFE NSW Budget in 2022-23.

“With the Mid North Coast’s population growing, this investment is vital for ensuring TAFE NSW has industry-standard, fit-for-purpose learning spaces at the Coffs Harbour Education Campus to meet student demand and learning needs,” Mr Henskens said.

“It will help increase enrolments, meet the region’s skills needs, support the community with education and employment pathways, and attract skilled workers to the Mid North Coast.”

The new, modern learning spaces are expected to be complete in 2025.

Mr Singh will have more to say about the NSW Government’s 2022-23 Budget in the coming days.
