It’s time to celebrate and recognise the enormous contributions of the more than 850,000 carers across NSW as we mark National Carers Week 2023, said Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh.
The theme, Millions of Reasons to Care, shines a spotlight on the 2.65 million unpaid carers across our nation and reflects on their immeasurable commitment and selfless support for their loved ones.
“National Carers Week is an opportunity to acknowledge the vital support carers provide and to thank them for their contributions to the Coffs Coast community,” said Mr Singh, Shadow Minister for Tourism, Emergency Services and the North Coast.
“These generous individuals don’t ask for thanks or recognition, yet their remarkable efforts are deserving of celebration.
“We thank carers for the support they provide to family members and friends, particularly unpaid care and support to people with disability, a mental health condition, chronic illness, drug and alcohol dependency or who are ageing.
“Caring for a family member or friend takes time, dedication and patience, and National Carers Week is an opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary work carers do in our community.”
In 2021-22, the NSW Liberals and Nationals Government committed $4.9 million to support carers as part of the NSW Carers Strategy 2020-2030.
Support is available through the Carer Gateway or you can call 1800 422 737.
National Carers Week runs until Saturday 21 October.
