COFFS HARBOUR BIG WINNER FOLLOWING SOCIAL HOUSING INVESTMENT

Coffs Harbour is set for more jobs and new social homes through the NSW Government’s economic recovery package with an additional $183 million dedicated to fast-track the delivery of more than 3,000 new homes and deliver housing solutions for people in need across the state.

Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh said additional projects in Coffs Harbour will be accelerated by the additional funding, helping to enable the delivery of new homes for tenant relocations, and where possible, local businesses will be used for these local projects.

“The additional investment in housing in Coffs Harbour will have a positive impact across the local community,” Mr Singh said.

“Like many areas in regional NSW, our community was hit hard economically by COVID-19 and this investment is the shot in the arm our region has needed.

“Not only will it fast track the delivery of new social housing for people in need, but also create jobs for our local tradies and businesses.”

The package includes $50 million to accelerate the delivery of around 2,800 homes, including around 1,000 social homes, to be built in Western Sydney and key regional areas including Coffs Harbour, in partnership with the private sector and CHPs.

Minister for Water, Property and Housing Melinda Pavey said the package will build on the NSW Government’s earlier stimulus investments, which are delivering almost 3,000 new homes across the state over the next four years.

“This package will support the people of NSW through jobs for the construction industry, whilst continuing to tackle hard issues like homelessness, housing affordability and providing opportunities for home ownership,” Mrs Pavey said.

A project set to benefit from the economic recovery package is the renewal of the Argyll Estate in Coffs Harbour, which will create a modern, mixed-tenure community that seamlessly blends quality sustainable social and private housing.

It will provide culturally sensitive homes with a mixture of medium density housing types to meet the needs of social housing residents, first-time home owners and down-sizers.
