Another local road upgrade will get under way in Coffs Harbour thanks to the NSW Nationals’ $500 million Fixing Local Roads program.
Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh said City of Coffs Harbour will receive $470,294 to enable it to accelerate road rehabilitation/maintenance work on Orlando Street, between the Pacific Highway and GDT Seccombe Close.
A City of Coffs Harbour contribution of $117,573 takes the total project cost to $587,867.
“The NSW Nationals are committed to fixing the roads you use every day through our $1.8 billion investment in local roads,” Mr Singh said.
“Work funded statewide will include sealing, resurfacing, road maintenance, drainage improvement and patching of local roads.
“Today’s announcement builds on the $330 million being provided to regional councils to fix potholes and the more than $500 million being invested into our Fixing Country Roads program.”
City of Coffs Harbour Mayor Cr Paul Amos said: “Having good quality roads and other infrastructure for the community is a goal of the City, so it’s good to see some funds being provided towards a much-needed road rehabilitation project on one of our busiest local roads.
“With nearly 900km of sealed and unsealed roads under our control, road repairs are a major part of our annual budget and we spend around $15.8m of City of Coffs Harbour allocated funds and $1.2m of State Government funds every year to keep them in the best condition we can with the funds available.”
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway said Fixing Local Roads was a game- changer for regional communities.
“Regional NSW has been doing it tough and we know how much better roads mean to people living in the regions, so I’m especially pleased to announce this injection of much-needed funds,” Mr Farraway said.
“The $500 million NSW Government Fixing Local Roads program supports councils to improve routes that regional communities use every day, making journeys for locals, farmers, and freight safer, more efficient, and more reliable.
“The NSW Nationals in Government have built a strong economy so we can continue to invest in the infrastructure that matters, securing a brighter future for NSW.”
Rounds 1 and 2 of Fixing Local Roads also received an additional $191 million from the Australian Government. Further information can be found at www.nswroads.work/fixinglocalroads
