FUNDING IS FANTASTIC NEWS FOR OUR SPORTS FACILITIES

Coffs Coast Jump Club has been awarded $273,088 in funding for its amenities repair and upgrade program, said Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh.

Flood affected sports facilities, programs, and sporting organisations across the State are getting a share of $36 million to get community sport back on the field, Mr Singh said.

The Essential Community Sport Assets Program is jointly funded by the Federal and NSW Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, as part of the broader Community Local Infrastructure Recovery Package (CLIRP).

“Coffs Coast Jump Club’s project is to repair and upgrade toilets and showers at Coffs Harbour Showground, where they’re based,” Mr Singh said.

“This important upgrade will ensure the amenities are an accessible, modern, welcoming, safe and hygienic space for all users, particularly sports participants, volunteers, visitors and campers.

“Energy efficient lighting and a vibrant mural are also planned.

“Investment in the repair and rebuild of key community infrastructure is an investment in the long-term resilience of local families.”

The Essential Community Sport Assets Program offered grants across two streams with between $150,000 to $1 million available to Councils in 74 Local Government Areas (LGAs), and grants of $15,000 to $500,000 available to sporting organisations and others groups that deliver sports programs.

Minister for Sport Alister Henskens said these projects would breathe new life into sporting clubs in flood-affected communities.

“The NSW Government has already delivered $12 million in grants to help rebuild and repair community sport infrastructure in eight priority LGAs that were affected by flooding,” Mr Henskens said.

“This additional boost, jointly funded by the Commonwealth Government, will improve or upgrade 96 community sporting facilities across NSW, helping people of all ages get back on the field and playing the sports they love.”

Federal Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan said he was pleased to see the funding shared across multiple projects within his electorate.

“Sports are a universal unifier of communities, so it is fantastic to see these projects awarded funds not just to restore facilities that existed previously, but to modernise and expand on them for future generations to come. My electorate has seen three projects successfully awarded, with the Urunga Recreation Reserve and Connell Park also receiving $499k and $995k respectively, for works improving field drainage and levelling of the grounds making them ready for play in all conditions,” Mr Conaghan said.
