Community-led programs have been funded by the NSW Government to empower seniors to be active and connected on the Coffs Coast.
Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh said Mission Australia has been successful in receiving almost $30,000 from a share of more than $600,000 through the third round of the Reducing Social Isolation for Seniors program.
“Following this round of the program, the NSW Liberals and Nationals have now supported 71 different programs with some $2 million to support seniors and keep them connected with their local communities right across the state,” Mr Singh said.
“Seniors are an integral part of our society and we want to make sure they don’t run the risk of falling into social isolation.
“Each of the programs we are funding are about making sure everyone can participate no matter their background, language or abilities.”
Mission Australia in Coffs Harbour will be supporting our local seniors through its Active Seniors Empowerment program, which is going to play an important role in breaking down those barriers of social isolation.
Mission Australia’s Active Seniors Engagement Officer, Alison Heeley, said: “Our DCJ-funded Active Seniors Empowerment program helps seniors in our community housing services to find their voice, get connected with their communities and lead more positive, engaged and happy lives.”
Funding of up to $50,000 was on offer in the third round of the Reducing Social Isolation for Seniors Grants program. Projects must run through 2022-2023.
