SINGH WELCOMES MORE MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh welcomes the announcement of new adult mental health services for regional NSW, including Coffs Harbour.

Mr Singh said he was pleased additional free walk-in mental health services for adults will soon be available in the State, with locations for new Head to Health services agreed between the Australian and NSW Governments.

Mr Singh said the Commonwealth and the State were providing $45.7 million over four years to establish and operate new services in Coffs Harbour, Dubbo, Wagga Wagga, Young, Bathurst, Muswellbrook and Moruya.

Head to Health, which is due to start in Coffs Harbour mid year, provides a new way to access free, quality mental health care within the community.

“Access to quality mental health services is essential for our communities, particularly in regional areas where resources can be limited,” Mr Singh said.

“These new services will provide much-needed support for adults who are experiencing mental health challenges and will help to ensure that they receive the care and treatment that they need.”

These services offer short to medium-term care for people with moderate to severe mental health needs, and immediate support and follow-up can be provided to people presenting in crisis.
