This morning John Barilaro announced he is retiring from politics. Barra will leave behind a legacy in Regional NSW that will be hard to surpass.
Barra was the person I approached as a candidate to ensure we got tunnels for the Coffs Bypass. It’s because of his advocacy we got more events like the NRL in Coffs Harbour.
And the last few years haven’t been easy. Barra has been at the forefront of recovery from the worst drought in history, the bushfire crisis, floods, and of course the Covid-19 pandemic.
Barra was not just a colleague but a friend and will be sorely missed in Macquarie Street.
I wish him every success in his next career.
