TAKING ACTION ON CRIME

I’ve seen first-hand how our community has changed over the last 12–18 months.

Youth crime has surged in a way that’s hard to ignore.

While our dedicated police are doing an excellent job apprehending offenders, it’s deeply concerning that our judicial system often releases these individuals almost immediately after they’re caught.

I firmly believe that while having 24-hour police stations is important, the real challenge lies within our courts. We need meaningful reforms that keep repeat offenders behind bars, ensuring our neighbourhoods remain safe and our families secure.

This week, I moved a motion in Parliament calling on the NSW Government to take decisive action.

We need to strengthen our justice system and build a safer community for everyone.

Text of the motion:

I shall move that this House;

1.Notes that crime in Regional NSW is skyrocketing under the Minns Labor Government.

2.Recognises that the NSW Police Force does an amazing job, but need legislative support to deal with young offenders.

3.Calls on the Government to increase police numbers in the Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command so stations like the Woolgoolga Police Station can have a 24-hour police presence.

4.Urges the NSW Government to get serious on young offenders, particularly repeat offenders.
