TRANSFORMATION OF COFFS HARBOUR MARINE PRECINCT CONTINUES

A major milestone in the upgrade works to transform Coffs Harbour Marine Precinct will be reached when work starts next month on a new 10,000-litre unleaded petrol refuelling facility for public, commercial and marine agency vessels.

Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh said the construction of this new $2.3 million facility, due to open mid this year, is the final stage of a raft of major improvements to the Coffs Harbour Marine Precinct.

“Other works already completed include the construction of a new boat maintenance facility which included a 75-tonne travel lift, the refurbishment of the existing buildings, improvements to external areas of the precinct, and expansion of the government agency marina,” Mr Singh said.

“The program of upgrade works will ensure government marine agencies have up-to-date infrastructure in close proximity to the harbour to enable a fast response to marine emergencies while also providing timely marine-related and safety-related services.”

Mr Singh said the major improvements to the Marine Precinct, which services the harbour and local region, provided essential facilities for government, local and visiting vessels.

“The expansion of the government agency marina brought the total number of berths to nine with the addition of five additional berths and two pens for Transport Maritime, Marine Area Command and Department of Primary Industries Fisheries,” Mr Singh said.

“The new facility enables each agency to improve response times which is critical for maritime rescue and safety work.”

The reconstruction of the boat maintenance facility and the installation of the 75-tonne travel lift located at the former slipway allows vessels to be lifted out and maintained in an environmentally-controlled area, eliminating risk of contaminants entering the waterway.
