NSW GOVERNMENT SUPPORTS AUSTRALIAN SIKH GAMES 2022

The NSW Government has announced $50,000 in support for the 34th Australian Sikh Games 2022, which will be held on the Coffs Coast this Easter long weekend.

Both Woolgoolga Sikh Sports Club and Coffs Harbour City Council have been given $25,000 each to help with the running of the annual sporting event.

Minister for Multiculturalism Mark Coure said the Sikh Games had a long history in Australia and was one of the country’s largest culturally diverse sporting events.

“It’s fantastic to see the Sikh Games returning to NSW following a two-year hiatus at the hands of the pandemic,” Mr Coure said.

“As we learn to live with COVID-19, it’s great to see iconic multicultural events such as this back on the calendar.

“The NSW Government is proud to support this major event with funding, which will go a long way towards helping host it in Coffs Harbour.”

Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh said organisers are expecting many thousands of competitors and spectators to attend the games from all over Australia and New Zealand.

“Members of the Sikh community love their sport and are passionate about healthy competition,” Mr Singh said.

“There’s definitely a buzz around town as we get closer to the event.

“This is yet another large sporting event held on the Coffs Coast and local businesses are excited about hosting the games this weekend.”
